The first period was scoreless until Czech Martin Matejcek scored on a 5-on-3 power play to give the Europeans a lead they would hold through the period. USA outshot Czech 8-5 in the stanza.

Team Wisconsin, 2010 Minnesota NIT champions

Team Wisconsin, 2010 Minnesota NIT champions

Shayne McLaughlin was slightly bummed on Saturday. Being a perfectionist, he was not completely satisfied with his play during the first three games of the Minnesota National Invitational Tournament held in Plymouth, MN.

Twenty-four hours later, McLaughlin’s disposition turned 180 degrees as he scored two goals and helped lead Team Wisconsin to a 4-1 win over North Dakota and the inaugural NIT title.

Casey Nelson got TW on the board with his laser from the top of the right circle that beat ND goalie Scott Buchholz between the wickets to give TW a 1-0 lead at 6:38 of the first.

TW earns tough 5-2 win over MN U18s
Posted by trasher on April 24th, 2010 in Game Summaries, General News, WAHA News

Minnesota National Invitational, Saturday 6:45pm

Despite falling behind 2-0 after four and one-half minutes of play, the boys from Wisconsin never gave up and scored five consecutive goals to earn a hard-fought 5-2 win over the Minnesota U18 team, a squad that is comprised of the best juniors in Minnesota.

The game had a rocky start as Minnesota tallied just 26 ticks into the contest when Dan Pemberton rifled a shot from the top of the right circle that beat TW goalie Mark Lambrecht high on the glove side. Nick Stoskopf and Micah Ranum were credited with assists on the play.

Trips to win: TW scores three in 1:32 for win
Posted by trasher on April 24th, 2010 in Game Summaries, General News, WAHA News

Trailing 2-1 late in the second period, Team Wisconsin struggled to find the answer to the tenacity of Michigan’s forecheck and how to score on hot goalie Michael Boike, who had stopped 19 of 20 shots up to that point.

With just over seventy seconds left, two Michigan penalties put TW on a 5-on-3 power play, at almost the identical time that TW had the opportunity the previous day against Minnesota. TW had 1:49 of 5-on-3 and had a handful of shots, but Michigan’s Boike stopped them all.

Minnesota Holds off TW 3-2
Posted by mjhammett on April 24th, 2010 in Game Summaries, General News, WAHA News

Team Wisconsin in their opening game of the 2010 Minnesota High school Hockey National Invitational battled but in the end suffered a 3-2 loss to the host Minnesota.

Wisconsin was first to score in the game as Max McCormick made the Minnesota defense pay. Pinching in too deep, Nathan Trannel and McCormick went the other way with a loose puck and McCormick finished with the goal and the 1-0 lead with 7:28 left in the first period.

But that was the last lead TW would have. Minnesota got it tied on the power play in the first on a slapshot by Joe Rubbelke from the slot. Minnesota untied it quickly. 16 seconds later they took the lead on a wrister from along the goal line by Lucas Gervais that snuck just within the far post for a 2-1- lead after one period.
